Mountain View, CA (June 7, 2016) – Singularity University (SU) is inviting social impact “rockstars” within non-profits, NGOs, government agencies, academia, and entrepreneurial and investor circles to apply to become Singularity University Impact Fellows. The goal of the new program is to convene an inclusive and collaborative community of inspired solvers, innovators, and changemakers—from around the globe and across all borders.
In this year-long program, 30 selected Fellows will attend—free of charge—a transformational SU educational experience at either the highly regarded SU Executive Program or one of SU’s industry-specific Exponential Conferences. These programs focus on the future of technology, disruptions and opportunities presented by emerging exponential technologies and how to best utilize them for social impact.
Impact Fellows will then collaborate with the SU global community to leverage these new tools, ideas, and connections to inspire and activate their local communities around an Impact Initiative. Their focus will be on creating sustainable and innovative social impact using exponential technologies to solve one or more of the Global Grand Challenges. Singularity University has selected 11 Global Grand Challenges (GGCs) central to its mission: water, food, energy, the environment, security, learning, health, prosperity, governance, disaster resilience and space exploration.
“Inclusive communities are the catalysts for innovative social impact,” says Lajuanda M. Asemota, Singularity University’s Director of Diversity & Inclusion. “That is the power of difference. We know that in this age of extraordinary innovation, solutions to the world’s biggest challenges are best achieved when everyone contributes.”
Selected Impact Fellows will propose a work plan for how they will develop or advance their Impact Initiative during the year-long program. Work may include: forming a new organization, boosting R&D efforts, creating policy change, or furthering public awareness to help solve a Global Grand Challenge. Applicants can also propose to mentor or contribute resources to a GGC initiative.
Applications are available online at http://singularityu.org/impact-fellows. The program is open to all individuals, with an emphasis to initiatives working on improving lives in developing and emerging markets. Impact Fellows will be selected for the degree of innovation in their proposals, career achievements, tech-domain expertise focused on social impact, and their passion to solve the Global Grand Challenges.
